Open Space Cafe Theatre Dinah Was! The Dinah Washington Musical 4609 West Market St, Greensboro - Dinah Was! is set around the true story of Washingtons appearance at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas in November 1959. At the top of her fame as the Queen of the Blues, Washington sold out three shows in the hotels main room, becoming the first African-American woman to headline a Las Vegas casino. This story combines great music with the tragic story of a woman who fought racism, as well as her own demons of failed marriages, alcoholism and drug abuse.
